Dear Gentle Readers,
I saw this post on Facebook and was surprised and disappointed. As a retired first grade teacher,, books were a very important part of my day. I encouraged fathers to let their sons see them reading for enjoyment as well as for information so they wouldn't see reading as a female pursuit. I asked families to read together whenever possible.
Books were a big part of our life at home when I was growing up and I was shocked to read that eighty percent of families had not bought or read a book last year. I understand many families don 't have money for extras, but we have a terrific public library system.
And if you have a computer, a smart phone, or any other digital device, there are many free books available and Kindle offers a free app for your device, so the over two and a half million books they have are at your fingerprints.
More on this later . For now , go read something interesting.
